Huang Luxiang Andrew,  (b. 2004, Singapore) graduated from School Of The Arts Singapore in 2022.

Andrew is an artist whose works extend beyond the boundaries of traditional Chinese artmaking. His paintings contextualize the concepts of phenomenology and intentionality in traditional Chinese Ink Painting into contemporary times, searching for meanings in everyday objects that revitalize lived human experiences in today’s context. Grounded in Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, Andrew’s practice involves employing Silk and Chinese Ink as primary mediums to assimilate traditional Chinese painting techniques with Western interpretations of artmaking. Andrew’s interests lie in utilizing structures such as housing estates as a tool to depict the confined spaces within our living quarters, implicating the psychological impacts it imposes on city dwellers. His works reflect the depictions of modern architecture, juxtaposing the lawlessness of fragmented buildings with its structured composition, while the integration of floral elements symbolize the distinctions between man-made structures and nature, where despite variations in their characteristics they both share the same space and environment. Encapsulating the inseparable relationship between Singaporeans and our urban environment, Andrew seeks to explore how our surroundings may impact our subconscious mannerisms.
